About Us

Our Story and Our Purpose

Since 2005, we have been supporting the development of children in Laredo through intentional education rooted in respect for each child’s growth and bicultural identity.

Our Story

Born from a Commitment to Every Child

Mundo Montessori was founded in 2005 with a clear vision: to provide every child with an education that honors their development, curiosity, language, and culture.

In a deeply bicultural community like Laredo, we recognized the importance of creating an environment where children can develop confidence in both languages while building independence and self-assurance through authentic Montessori education.

Today, we remain a small and intentional community where every child is observed, understood, and supported throughout their developmental journey, and where every family is an important part of that journey.

Our Mission

To support the whole-child development of every student through an authentic Montessori environment grounded in observation and ongoing study of child development. Our approach continuously evolves to respond intentionally to children’s needs, fostering independence, learning, social-emotional growth, and a strong bicultural identity.

Our Vision

To be an educational community that nurtures confident, independent thinkers who are prepared to thrive as global citizens. Supporting children as they grow, create, and become.

Our Team

Passionate educators dedicated to nurturing each child’s potential through authentic Montessori practice.

Gabriela Hernández

Director

Gabriela leads Mundo Montessori with a clear vision and an intentional approach, supported by her background in education and child development.

She guides the team in creating a consistent and carefully prepared environment where every child and every family is supported with attention and purpose.

Sharin Noriega Márquez

Arts Coordinator

Sharin leads the arts program, creating experiences that integrate creativity, self-expression, and child development within the Montessori environment.

Through her work, children develop confidence, communication skills, and the ability to express their ideas authentically.

Bilingual Identity

Two Languages, One World

Laredo lives between two cultures. More than 90% of families in our community speak both English and Spanish at home. At Mundo Montessori, bilingualism is not something we accommodate—it is part of who we are.

In Children’s House, children develop both languages throughout the day, strengthening their communication skills, thinking, and identity across two cultures.

“Mundo” means “world.” We chose this name because we believe every child should grow up knowing that the world is open to them.

Our Philosophy

The Montessori Difference

An education that respects child development and responds intentionally to each stage of growth.

Child-Led Learning

Children are active participants in their own learning, choosing their work within a prepared environment that fosters concentration, independence, and intrinsic motivation.

Hands-On Materials

Montessori materials allow children to learn through direct experience, making concepts visible and supporting deep, meaningful understanding.

Mixed-Age Community

Mixed-age classrooms reflect real life. Children learn from one another, developing empathy, collaboration, leadership, and a strong sense of belonging.
